Derrick Washington, Sr.
Since the age of 6 years old, Derrick grew up singing in church. His mom would give him singing lessons.
As well as a singer, he's a preacher, church minister of music, drummer, organist, keyboardest and trumpet player.
His musical influences are his mom, his brothers and sisters (who also sings and plays instruments). His late cousin James Scott Jr (who taught him piano) and Cedric Caldwell (who taught him trumpet and organ).
He's written many songs through the years in which he's taught to several choirs and groups. In 2008 two of his songs "Grace" & "Till You Bless" were featured on the Overcoming Believer's Church cd "Kingdom Revealed", performed by Nu Way of Livin', a gospel group formed by him and his brother Timothy Washington.
He's married to Phylicia Washington and has two children, Alyshia & DJ. He also has a grand daughter named Patience, whom he nicknamed Patie-Bug (like LadyBug).
Derrick is a firm believer that only what you do for Christ will last. He strives to make music that will impact lives.
In 2021 his song "Till You Bless Me" won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Gospel Award.
